SUMMIT
WE GROW AS WE SERVE The SUMMIT programme is a one year leadership development programme for young Christian men and women. The programme offers team members one-on-one discipleship, extensive training and ministry opportunities with children and teenagers through schools work, camping and community development projects. Beginning mid-January, the successful applicants receive training in personal leadership development, youth ministry, counselling, interpersonal skills and programming as well as presentation skills such as drama, clowning and creative Christian communication. The SUMMIT team is also trained to present SU’s various courses, including the Lifeskills course and others. Part of the training component is done at a Bible College which means that the candidate will receive credits towards a diploma/degree. After the initial training period the year is spent running SU Lifeskills courses, coaching and managing of school sports teams, weekend and holiday youth camps and SU holiday clubs – all part of SU’s ministry programme. There is also opportunity to experience cross-cultural ministry on a missions trip. The programme ends in November. The team live together in community, which is their ‘home from home’. This house is situated in the community where the team are working. They will be under the leadership of an SU staff worker appointed to be team leader. Each SUMMIT student will need to enlist friends who will offer prayer and financial support. Fees need to be paid for each of the 10 months of the programme at the beginning of each month. Fees cover full board and lodging, training and transport plus pocket money. Help and advice will be given to students accepted onto the programme in the raising of the required support. Many past SUMMIT students have gone on into full-time youth work, to Bible College, into Missions, become SU staff works, church and community leaders.
